J Scrivner Investigations

Coeur d'Alene, Idaho commercial building

A three story downtown commercial building containing an
office supply business and apartments was substantially damaged by fire. Cause and origin was determined. A contractor and inventory specialist was employed immediately to salvage the owner's property, help move into temporary business quarters, and inventory non salvageable items. Advertising was paid for, to announce the Insured's new location, which reduced business interruption losses. The entire claim was resolved in a timely manner for about $400,000.

Homeowner's policy vandalism fraud

An Insured filed a claim for a serious vandalism loss claiming $9,000 in damaged property and stolen items. John worked with city detectives and determined that the Insured was responsible for the loss, not a 3rd party. After proper evidence was documented, the insured signed a proof of loss, and was given a draft of payment. The detectives arrested the insured and his daughter at that time. Fraud charges were filed, and the insured was found guilty and fined by the court. The claim was denied and not appealed.

Residential Fire & Fraud Claim

The Insured's house burned to the ground while he was out of town during the winter. The cause could not be determined. Because of the unusual circumstances of the loss and the owners prior fire experience, John recommended that the frozen remains of the house be heated up and sifted for evidence after receipt of an extensive personal property inventory. It was determined that the Insured had falsified his inventory, and thus his claim was denied. The denial was confirmed by the WA State Supreme Court (see Mutual of Enumclaw vs Cox in the court case section).
