Defective Transmission line cross arms, installed 12-18 months
prior, began to fail. Several wild land fires were caused as
a result, damaging numerous property owners. The entire line
had to be rebuilt. Evidence gathered and testing done to the
cross arms resulted in a recovery to WWP, of over $135,000. |

Major wild land fire caused by a railroad crew, resulted in thousands
of acres burned including crops, and farm equipment. One fatality
also was caused by the fire. The railroad at first alleged that
an Avista power line caused the fire. After a complete investigation,
the railroad reimbursed Avista over $58,000 for damage to Avista's
power lines. Aerial photos and video tape footage, were critical
to this investigation. |

Subrogation &
Collection Systems Development |
While working for WWP/Avista in 1989, John audited the damage
reporting systems, where others have damaged
electric and gas facilities of the company. It was found that
over 50% of all cases were not reported, due to complicated incident
forms, and follow up. John worked with operations personnel
to re-design the reporting forms, both gas & electric, and
eliminated 10 of the 12 crew forms required. Reporting and follow
up improved immediately, and collections rose from $200,000 per
year to over $800,000 in 5 years. |
