Loss Prevention Program Development

In 1989, numerous serious public accidents per year on the companies system, including electric contacts, drownings near dams & generation facilities, gas facility fires, & other incidents created a study of solutions. John worked with the new public safety director assisting in the development of public information programs that targeted certain groups most frequently involved in past accidents. John has supported the public safety program since and lobbied for continued funding. Public accidents have been reduced dramatically since.

Employee 1st responder training

John developed and implemented training of gas and electric field crews, to recognize and report potential hazards for follow up action, where persons could be injured by company facilities. Field personnel carried with them response check lists, which included all claims department emergency numbers, and summary of 1st responder protocol. This includes securing the scene for safety, ID of witnesses before they leave the site, cooperation with authorities, retaining facility parts replaced, and proper communication with persons at the scene including the media.

Employee safety programs & training

John was a member of the companies Employee Safety & Health Department "Central Safety committee" for 10 years. During this time employee injury accidents and vehicle accidents were reviewed monthly. Often, the committee followed up on recommendations for prevention of future accidents, made by employees involved or their supervisors. John developed and implemented safety programs on vehicle backing accidents, and proper driver operation of truck ABS brakes.
